9.1 - Powerful & authentic. It’s been almost a week since I watched this and parts are still sitting with me. The way art can bring hope & peace, bring people together, allow you to feel human - it gives an entire range of emotions in a tight run time. But something small is missing from making this an instant 5 star classic. The punch of dealing with such a difficult & emotional subject. Even the most emotional moments of this felt telegraphed enough that they didn’t quite hit the way they should have. However, Colman Domingo is getting his Oscar nomination. And the supporting performances from those directly involved in this true to life story were almost as equally moving. One that many more people will need to watch before next awards season.

This swells the heart. It’s a totally different type of prison film. And it is deeply moving.

Ideas that stuck with me:

Anyone can change + grow. Anyone can learn to love and feel. Trust the process. Try again and again. Give generously. Men need to be more vulnerable.

9.4/In a weird way I find comparison between Sing Sing and “Emilia Perez”, instead of choosing well known actors for more publicity, they chose actors that are closer to the story. The ending: “As himself” (being almost all of the actors) really touched me in some way.>>

Finding joy through acting, in a program to give prisoners a sense of humanity, really made me emotional. The fact that the majority of these actors played themselves makes it all the better. One of the most powerful and authentic films of the year.

8/10 great story, cast/acting, so realistic and then found that most of the cast were real characters playing them selves. RTA great program and may it continue. Worth a watch.

Cool how they had the real prisoners act, otherwise it felt a bit slow in parts but still good

Wow. Shows injustice and how even when your life is unfair at times, you can still make the beat of it by cheering others up. Inspiring

Wow this was so good. This story is so captivating and the way the theatre and creative process helps heal is just so lovely. Truly transformative art!!! So emotional and vulnerable. I absolutely loveddd the ending. 🥹 Cinematography was beautiful and the acting was phenomenal, specifically Coleman Domingo. And the fact they used so many cast members to play themselves!!! Honestly shocked this didn’t win any Oscars but three nominations were well deserved. Had no idea it was a true story and that makes it even better. Ugh I’ll be thinking about this one for a while.

i really felt like i was included in their circles. not a dull/boring moment. evryone got their moment and shared it with us too. i think a lot of them aren’t actually actors, but it’s interesting that way because we watched them slowly become their characters 10/10 fssss

really touching! and to learn it was inspired by a real story and that the actors were actually playing themselves was extraordinary

i am so happy that colman domingo is in everything now because god damn can this man just act his ass off in every single role he is in, he is the star of this film and delivers such a tragic and heartbreaking emotional performance as Divine G, a victim of the US prison system, desperately clawing and scratching for hope that he may one day be served justice - beautiful story

An absolutely stellar film. This was robbed of getting a nomination for Best Picture. The acting is amazing and the writing is just as good. It’s a moving, true story and it’s very cool how they kept most of the same people. Not a single boring part and very emotional. 8/10

Good story from a good place in the heart. Amazed at the full circle aspect of how the actors are the inmates who were actors, no question why they all did incredible in this film.

Beautiful. Beautiful that it’s a true story, with authentic actors. Clarence’s love and openness give me the image of a man who was already ready to break free from his “gangster” persona and build a new life with his family. I hope he got to live that life.

Lindo, marcante, profundo! Nos faz refletir sobre tudo: o que somos, como somos vistos, como lidamos com os rótulos, o que é a liberdade... Descobrir que boa parte do elenco faz a si mesmo só me fez amar ainda mais o filme. "We're here to become human again".

Need to watch again and fully like in but like damn
