Saving a town with your buds is the new sex

At first, the film seemed rather trivial to me. And that’s not surprising I suppose, because it was roughly 70 years after its first appearance in the moment when I was writing this comment. But it is just an illusion in the beginning... The real movie, in my opinion, started when villagers met Kambei.
As we can see, the main idea is not only a reflection of the pure kindness of these seven samurais, when nothing is offered in return to them. For me personally, the main idea is to represent a real war… Even though we see it as very simplified, because of only entire struggle occurs only around one village, tactics and strategy in this film show us the reductional form of the real war. We can see sadness due to the loss of friends, we can see fear before the fight, we can see sympathy in willingness to help, and we can see disputes internally when it is necessary to unite for the sake of a common external enemy. The last one is exactly what often happens in real life…
However, the most important moment is the last quote, in my opinion. "We lost. The peasants are the winners, not us." - says Kambei. The samurai did not get anything. Vice versa, they have only losses… Their brothers… The peasants live on... They have nothing to worry about now, even about these samurais who survived… And that’s also about the real war… When a war is over, civilians have nothing similar with solders… They simply don’t need them…

Seven Samurai is long; it is brutal; it is not always easy to follow. But it is magnificent. This sturdy tale of action pictures the Japan of centuries ago in one exquisite shot after another.

Kyuzo was ‘Magnificent’

It’s incredibly long, but overall it made good use of the time. Not once was I bored, confused—yes! But not bored.

This one kinda warrants a rewatch because I couldn’t distinguish characters. Ending’s sad but that’s the point.
The siege was magnificent

One of the hardest to rate. Definitely the best Japanese and Kurosawa film ever made. Everything is amazing.
Hard to find flaws, maybe the first hour and a half felt a bit dragged, but that might be because the rest was near perfect. Will probably change to love later.

Did Kurosawa know that the narrative structure he helped create for this film would be used decades later in adaptations of American superhero comics? I wonder if he knew just how important he was to this medium.

One of the best for a reason. I prefer Ran, but this is great.

Una magnifica fotografia e una storia profonda, personaggi con mille sfaccettature, comprendo perchè sia un grande classico, tuttavia se non siete ferrati di film con questo ritmo risulta pesantissimo, si va avanto per la storia che crea e rilascia tensione magistralmente

Fantastic 10/10 every second of this movie was great I don’t even care that it’s super long very much worth it.

Taking into consideration this was made in 1954, it truly is really advanced for the time - in that way it is a very impressive movie. Plenty of funny bits, and fights, and it doesn’t feel as long as it really is. Overall I enjoyed it, but I don’t think I’ll ever watch it again.

Long but with good reason. I see why it’s so highly regarded. I give it a 7/7.
