Sentimental Value
If you like watching people stare at each other quietly for two hours straight all for it to end in what I could only call an absolute gut wrenching feeling of how you have just wasted time you will never get back. This movie needs to be on 2x speed with subway surfers under it.

8.8 - This was quite raw & honest in every facet, from script to performances to sound & score.
Renate Reinsve & Stellan Skarsgard are the obvious power players, but their interactions with Elle Fanning & Inga Lilleaas carry a significant amount of the weight as well.
This is one that is sticking with me a lot more strongly than I anticipated after leaving the theater. As I watched I was waiting for the big moment & the hard hitting scene, something singular to justify all the chatter I’d heard about this wrecking its audiences emotionally, & while I’m not certain if there is one, all the layers come together beautifully to give that same punch.
It’s sad knowing that myself & so many others see their own experiences in stories like these, but for all the hurt in stories of strained family relationships like this, I believe there’s some hope as well that it can be healed.

Presqu’un like… j’ai aimé le sister love. Et je comprends l’absence du père. Mais j’ai très peu d’empathie envers le blanc, le gris… is life really that serious??? Aurait pu être un short

Stellan Skarsgård is quietly excellent and Elle Fanning brings warmth and vulnerability that balances the film’s emotional distance. It leans more on atmosphere and conversations than plot; beautifully shot, subtle, and reflective, though a bit slow at times.

Kinda floored by how much this film affected me. I can’t undersell the expectation I had for this - not only because of all awards hype, but because Trier’s last picture, The Worst Person in the World - is one of my favourite films and has had a pretty big impact on my life. Sentimental Value didn’t disappoint.
Everything about this is just perfection. It plays in such an unconventional space; all the characters are burdened by unspoken trauma, but rather than do the obvious thing, Trier doesn't have them overcome and reconcile - it’s more about learning to understand it and just get on with it.
I was half under the impression Stellan Skarsgård was a “career award” pick for the most part. Instead, this will be one of my favourite Supporting Actor wins of all time. He’s simply magnetic, the power of emotion he’s able to portrays through a single expression is transcendent and floored me. Renate Reinsve, of course, was fantastic as well, I genuinely never had any doubt. I’m thrilled she got a more than deserved Best Actress nomination - in a just world, as much as I love Jessie Buckley - Reinsve would win.
It feels far less ‘focused’ than The Worst Person in the World, not a negative. That lack of obvious clarity is exactly what makes the film so powerful and character-enhancing. That final sequence was phenomenal and had me tearing up in a way which really caught me off guard. Beautiful, healing movie.

don’t need to dive into themes and messages, but its very complex, good at everything. Final scene brought a tear to the eye. Have to be in the mood, but heavy and left me quiet for a while after. Awesome opening and ending song! A lot can be said in silence and face expressions

Its got a kick to it
Its quite a slow film when not watching it in the cinema.
Still packs such a punch, that moment of sisterly sadness and the ending. Fuck me.

it’s a good movie fs. i found it a bit slow at parts, but that didn’t bother me too much. the monologue we got from his film helped and confused me about the father daughter relationship. i assume he sees a bit of his mother in her, but the question is how can he, he was absent
