Schindler's List

Now, this movie is beautiful, but the story is absolutely devastating. Now, I don’t know who Liam Neeson was up against in the Oscars, but I struggle to understand who could have possibly beat him in terms of acting, because Liam Neeson made be absolutely sob towards the ending.

Review part of Friday Night Film

Well, I am back from my school’s Poland trip, and we of course had to watch this movie in class, so I naturally made it this week’s Friday Night Film. And I do not know how to feel about this film.

You see, the past few weeks, I (my school) have been watching (forcing) a lot of WW2 movies. And after all this, my consensus has melted together. I’m tired of these war films. However, I must give this film a fair enough review.

This is directed by Steven Spielberg, one of the directing greats. I quite liked Disclosure Day, and I do think he is a good director. However, my main issue with this film is that a major portion of it is just… boring. Now I don’t mean “there’s no action scenes or jokes!!” boring. I know that this movie is NOT meant to be fun. What I mean is that the boring portion is “this is just filler and is not that interesting to learn about” boring.

One of my other issues with this film is that.. I’m scared to say this is not that good. I really want to treat the six million Jews who died during the Holocaust with respect, but because of that, I’m scared of saying that this movie isn’t the best.

Now.. what do I like, or to be more respectful, what do I find as positives in this film? Steven Spielberg’s portrayal of the horrors of the Holocaust is incredibly good. I could feel the impact of what happens in this film. I also really like the last hour of this film. That is when it overall ramps up and I can feel the pressure of everything.

But especially the final 15 or so minutes when Schindler breaks the news to his workers is a sight to see. I guess the way I can describe the feeling I had watching those moments was that it felt weird that war was finally over.

I may not be the biggest fan of this film, but I know a good third act when I see one, and this one saved this film for me.
