Those two together are unstoppable

Nothing special. I don’t know why it is so overrated. The plot is boring even when you watch these teeter-totters of emotions in the family: one day they quarrel and hate each other, one day they love and seem very happy… Even this curved line didn’t give this movie anything that could be interesting to me…
Now about the sense. We observe a woman’s constant desire to break free from her cage, a constant desire to escape… She believes that this will give her more freedom… The man is also quite depressed due to his permanent routine. It seems that the decision that arises at the beginning can save them. But, as often occurs in life, fairy tales are not reality. To continue to live happily you need to constantly adapt to everyday struggles.
However, I do not fully support Frank because he betrays his wife, and, in my opinion, a man who has chosen a woman for himself can never cheat. This is respect not only for her but also for yourself. If a man cheats, he does not even have some respect to himself: he does not respect to his choice, which he once made… But, whatever one may say, he behaves more adequately than his wife…
He acts according to what he has to do. And this is the most important thing! He acts according to what he has to do. And this is the most important thing! He does NOT WHAT HE WANTS, BUT WHAT HE HAS TO DO. In this world, we often have to do what we don’t want to do. But it is necessary... It is necessary because of duty, because of responsibility to parents or to children (which they both had). Frank understood that without work he wouldn't be able to provide all his children with everything they need. Moreover, this desire to work and not to dedicate his entire life to himself woke up in him just after their third child was to be born. That seems that he understands the responsibility.
I've seen other comments, and people write that Frank is a bastard because he didn't support the woman's choice, but only thought about himself. But, let's be honest, the film begins with the man expressing his support for the woman after the performance. He sees that she's upset because she understands that the performance was not ideal even close. And that leads to a quarrel that in fact was caused by the woman. It turns out that he supported her after all... But why then do comments of this kind arise? Because, perhaps, he also understands when support is important and necessary, and when it can lead to negative consequences. In fact blind support and cooperation always lead to different catastrophes… He stopped dreaming about a trip because of the circumstances that arose. He had to act like a real man under the conditions of the realities of life, and not according to the conditions of an egoistic and solipsistic fairy tale.
Now about the woman. She once said that Frank sees in her only “dreams of the child”. And, in my opinion, this is the most important part of the film. You can really think that the woman has not grown up, has not become mature. Frank thought rationally, he understood that he could not give up everything because he had duties to his family, and to his children. This is important, because when children are born, people really have to tighten their belts, they have to think not only about themselves but also about their children. Children are a prolongation of your life… This is a generational transfer of data. You will continue to live in them even when your personal biological and conscious life ends. The woman had to prioritize what she wanted. Either she accepts what she lives with responsibility, or, on the contrary, decides to live only for herself. The second won… Suicide is the most selfish practice in this film. She does not want responsibility for her children, she does not want responsibility for her future child. She gave up everything to simply kill the child and herself.

In conclusion, it is worth saying that I have always been for people to realize their dreams. Like Heidegger, I see people of the masses as “das Mann”, which implies that this is a human without personality (that is why Heidegger uses the impersonal article “DAS” here). But our personality ALWAYS depends on others. Often others force us to accept some kind of responsibility, forcing us to abandon exclusively individual ideas. You shouldn't really be stuck at work only when you spend all your money exclusively on profane fun. But you should give yourself to it when, thanks to it, you continue the quality of life for your children, who are an extension of the form of your personality.

Nothing to say about it. Not bad but not good either.

I get that people might find this movie boring or pointless, but I really enjoyed watching Leo and Kate together, and was waiting to see how it would end. Some men just really are little boys trying to make their daddy proud, and she just wanted a life.

I really don't think I'm ready for all of this. Went into this hoping it would give me an answer or smth in the end, and the answer it gave was the only one I hoped it wouldn't be.
I relate to this on a different level. Nothing makes sense. Never did. 4/5

Beautiful film that is also kinda horrific, Leo pulling away as best actor OAT for me. Kate winslet has serious talent and supporting cast is fantastic. Sam Mendes is an underrated genius.

the sequel to titanic that we never got but it’s the domestic violence version. the chemistry leo & kate winslet have is just as evident as it was in titanic. you can’t take your eyes off the screen with how convincing their acting is. their performance gave me chills

Sad of course but it doesn’t reel me in enough because of how boring it is overall. Not hating but maybe it’s just not my type of movie.

I was bored for the majority of this, but once it got to the dinner scene with Michael Shannon, it got REAL interesting. The acting overall is crazy good with the whole cast.

this was a very impactful and dark movie that put on a vulgar like display of emotion that shows the little ticks in people that tie their feelings down and end up dragging them with it

I was expecting a simple family drama, but what I encountered was a total psychological breakdown. The tension and the disconnect just pull you in. It’s a powerful production where dreams collide with reality and the void deepens.

I remember thinking it was lame. Kinda anxiety inducing if I remember right
