Only really got good at the end. The script was weird, like the dialogue. I'll chalk it up to being old. It's not one I'd rewatch but glad I got this classic done. James Dean is so attractive like i get it grandma 😂

I love old school classics and I am always trying to watch as many as I can. Watching this movie with James Dean and seeing what an amazing actor he was is just a honor. To have been in this time is such a dream. The plot was amazing.

This was the first James Dean film I have watched, and I had wanted to see this movie in its entirety for quite some time. I never expected it to be more of a drama than a comedy.
The film has strong development in the first half, where we are introduced to the three main characters at the police station, each dealing with their own struggles and teenage rebellion. (It is interesting to remember that James Dean was actually 24 years old while playing a teenager.)
I felt that the “love story” was somewhat forced. I think the film would have benefited from focusing more on Jim’s character and his life of constantly moving from one city to another. The car race scene felt quite weak, and the other driver’s death was barely acknowledged; the film moves on from it almost immediately, which felt unrealistic.
At times, it makes you wonder if Plato had romantic feelings for Jim, but considering the social context of the 1950s, the film could not openly explore that possibility. However, he was also a young man desperately seeking attention, acceptance, and friendship.
The ending is extremely tragic, and I think the story could have had a much more meaningful resolution.

One of De Niro's favorites!?! I can't really judge anyone but damn...what to even say about an overnight shallow love...offenders turning victims...the so called tramp just goes on to the next in line after a dead and says she's not one...did we watched the same film!? what!?

Interesting bc it’s 70 years old, almost too much of a culture difference to understand it though. I don’t really get the fuss about James dean

Acting was great. Had no plot, story arc, or fluency. I know it was a groundbreaking film of its time, but it’s not for me

A great classic with awkward acting and dialogue but I think it kind of lends to the film being about showing a more unpolished side of American life in the 50s instead of glamorizing and sensationalizing everything

Pretty good. I can see why it’s iconic, it stands out for the time it was made and the performances were awesome! The story ends sad but it’s well done

i was not expecting the “you’re tearing me apart” scene to be the very beginning. overall it was incredibly dramatic, def agree with it being classified as a melodrama. and the parents being like “you won’t think about this in 10 years” ??? hated that bc just something you inflicted will be a distant memory in 10 yrs to YOU doesn’t mean those affected won’t always remember. overall i do like the insight into why “troubled teens” are troubled and the plight of judy even though i don’t agree with all of her actions; also on the note of plato, he just wanted a family man and he was such a tragic character and i do care for him and i hated his death. tragic
