I watched this after attending the Renaissance World Tour… what a fucking film. It really shows you how far drag and the ballroom scene has come, where it started, the journey, the hardships, and how the battle is still going on. Absolute excellence.

Such and important insight and small sliver of queer culture at a time where they were relegated and cast off. You see how bright of stars there were and how they created community and culture that now we're able to see the impact on the mainstream they created.

5/5 such a beautiful documentary on gay black life in the 70s

Such a fascinating and raw look at NYC’s ballroom culture in the 80s and 90s. It blows my mind how much of pop culture we owe to the Black and LGBTQ+ communities. So educational! I feel far more cultured than I did going in. I understand why it’s such a documentary staple.
