Overlord: The Undead King

I expected a clunky recap for this 10th anniversary screening, but revisiting Nazarick was a super fun, nostalgic trip.

What Worked:
Itō’s framing of Ainz instantly establishes his god-like power. Through my Methodist faith lens, seeing Momonga protect villagers beautifully shows that true grace means shielding the defenseless. Katayama’s eerie score and the new Hamsuke combat choreography also add great theatrical flair.

The Cuts:
Stitching episodes together made the narrative flow really drag for me; it’s like jumping between side-quests. Keeping it spoiler-free, stopping right before the Clementine arc climax feels super abrupt. Cramming heavy lore means emotional beats can’t breathe, leaving the side characters one-dimensional.

Verdict:
A fun but disjointed trip to YGGDRASIL. Good for a quick refresher, but skip it and binge the original series if you want the full story.

Favorite Line: “I am Ainz Ooal Gown. With that name at stake, there can be no defeat.”
