Now I understand why this film is highly recommended for film students. It features fantastic sequences from beginning to end. The dialogue may feel very carefully crafted, but it is important to remember that the film is based on William Shakespeare’s literary work.
Orson Welles, as always, delivers as both a brilliant director and actor as Othello. Suzanne Cloutier gives an elegant and graceful performance as Desdemona, and finally, Micheál Mac Liammóir portrays the deeply hated Iago with great effectiveness.
The film starts beautifully, making it seem like it will be a love story, but it quickly reveals that it is actually a story about heartbreak, jealousy, and the destructive power of rumors.
The main lesson I took from this film is: trust your partner and do not let gossip, envy, or the intentions of others destroy your relationship.

Othello
A direction and acting for the ages in this Shakespeare’s adaptation of a play!

Great cinematography and acting. I’m just not a Shakespeare type of guy. It does nothing for me.
