LOVED this! It’s portraying people’s everyday life and the feeling music brings so well. The camera work i find is really interesting too, it almost feels like a documentary which makes it more real and immersive in a way.

Not crazy about the camera work & the cussing is out of place. But the songs are invigorating & the central pair is great - Irglová is ridiculously cute. The central idea is so poignant: two human paths crossing that can never converge, no matter how beautiful the connection.

Has some nice music in it but not enough to make up for the shoddy camera work and overly casual aesthetic.

First watched it back in high school, it was snowing outside, so the songs still remind me of Christmas time. Lies and Falling Slowly really accompanied me through adolescence.
Now 8 years later I finally found it on stream and it broke me all over again. Great movie, love it!

each song was meaningful and actually something I’d listen to, the actors are so natural and charming. Really wholesome and inspiring.

Most of John Carney’s films revolve around music bringing people together. This applies here, but it’s much more raw; filmed on a low budget, shot with a handheld digital camera. Overall, it’s a moving film about dreams and music.
