On Swift Horses is a complex film. It is well directed, beautifully shot, and has a strong soundtrack. The pacing felt dry at times, but the themes stuck with me.

It made me think of the phrase “life’s not meant to be managed, it’s meant to be lived.” This movie shows how messy that balance really is. The characters are always managing what others know about them while also risking it all to really live. One even says there is always the chance of losing everything. Still, some are brave enough to risk it all for love, freedom, pleasure, connection, and truth.

The cinematography stood out the most. Some shots made me want to pause, freeze the frame, and just sit in it before pressing play again.

ok, i appreciate everything this movie is trying to say, and everyone delivered great performances. but i did not love this movie. the ending did not help things because it hurt me! it wasn’t a waste of time by any means, but i’m disappointed. 😖
