This movie is probably famous for one scene in particular, and while the rest of the film kind of meanders a bit (I think you really need to be invested in the Cary Grant/Ingrid Bergman dynamic for it to work), that one scene really does make it worth it.

Not my favorite from Hitchcock. It didn't have as much suspense as his other films, but still, I'm excited to check out more of his work. I can already see Ingrid Bergman becoming one of my favorite actresses, especially after this, Casablanca & Autumn Sonata.

Not the best 1940s movie but not the worst.

“I’m making fun of myself, I’m pretending I’m a nice, un-spoiled child who’s heart is full of daisies and buttercups”

“Nice daydream, and then what?”

A very well-made, tense and suspense-filled spy thriller. Amazingly performed with interesting characters. I guess what brings it down is the romantic angle of the plot becomes a bit uncomfortable. Great ending shot. Well-directed with some memorable sequences (e.g. using the champagne in the ice box as visual indicator of a ticking clock).

Not my favorite Hitchcock but still good. Little too heavy on the romance. Stubborn couple in a high stake situation.

I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Grant and Bergman did such phenomenal jobs portraying their characters that you can’t help but be completely enthralled. That’s not even to mention the spectacular b&w cinematography. Hitchcock really knew what he was doing. 9/10
