Definitely need to read the book before watching the movie. But not a terrible adaptation. I like that they filmed it from April to June of 1984

🔴I'm mixed here. For one, I loved how bleak this was. No resultion, no hope, no breaks. It did feel too on-the-nose for me tho, especially in the torture scene. Without having read the novel, I do think some ideas were (naturally) more fleshed out there. Sex scenes galore tho.🟡

Love the eerie setting. The book explains the story better but I still enjoyed the watch

Está 100% hecha para quienes leyeron el libro. Si no lo leíste, se vuelve muy aburrida y confusa.

Not nearly as good as the book and it leaves a lot out but a good showing of the basic concepts the book talks about though it does show its age in some aspects for sure.

Uma boa adaptação da obra do George Orwell, levando em consideração a época do lançamento, é bem fiel ao livro... Um futuro distópico, cada vez mais próximo 🤯. Nota 7,5.

definitely not what i was expecting, neither in a good or bad way. most of the film was pretty tame and bland compared to the book, but the cinematography was absolutely phenomenal. definitely a good amount of tarkovsky references/influence throughout. overall an okay film with some noticeably weaker and stronger parts. john hurt’s performance was impeccable and carried the film along with the cinematography

My biggest problem with this film is in order to follow it, you must have read the book first and then you can fill the many gaps the movie leaves.
The pacing is excruciating and you need to turn subtitles on because the dialogue is not always clear.

If this one had more of the story from the ‘56 version, I think it’d be great. This one is kinda hard to follow. Visually it’s great. The bleakness and stark totalitarianism comes off well. The acting is good. The minimalistic score is a great addition. Overall it’s decent.

There is no doubt that George Orwell provides timeless literature. 1984, for example, being the best critique of Totalitarianism ever.
This film, like Animal Farm (1954), are great adaptations but obviously lack the depth of the books.
I would say a strong 7/10.
