I threw this on because I just wanted to catch up with Kanna and the gang. I absolutely love this movie; it perfectly balances cozy slice-of-life comedy with a deep father-daughter story.

What Worked:
• Kyoto Animation’s visuals are gorgeous, especially during the massive dragon battles.
• Kanna’s emotional struggle to connect with her dad honestly hits right in the feels.
• Kobayashi teaching a terrifying dragon about human family bonds cracked me up.

The Friction:
• Azad’s manipulation plot felt cliché and his villain exposition really dragged for me.
• Favorite side characters like Lucoa and Elma kinda faded into the background.
• The pacing before crossing to the Dragon World stalled when I honestly just wanted action.

Verdict:
Watch for a visually beautiful, heartwarming movie with a ton of depth. Skip if fantasy villain tropes annoy you or you prefer episodic comedy.
