A minions movie that’s enjoyable for adults???

Review part of New in 2026, 30 Movies in 30 Days

I have always thought that Despicable Me and the Minions were a relic of my childhood. I hated those shitty Minion memes and thought that they were just dumb characters that only 5-year-olds liked. And then I saw the review come in, and I knew I had to see if they were true. And holy shit, they made an incredibly good Minions movie.

Basically, this movie is about Minions making movies in 1920s Hollywood. When I read that description months ago, I thought that they were retconning what they did with Minions 1 and that they were gonna make an R-rated sequel where they work for Hitler later down the line. I won’t spoil how they handled it, but they handled it well.

One thing I really liked about this movie is the fact that they managed to cram in old movie references while still not having the movie be like the Mario Galaxy movie where it felt like a bunch of TikTok’s crammed together.

One thing I will say about the Minions now that I actually like one of the Minions movies is the fact that they really are keeping the art of slapstick alive in cinema. I laughed a lot during this movie even though the jokes seemed kiddy just because I haven’t seen slapstick that much in a movie before. It’s like a breath of fresh air.

My only big complaint about this movie is the fact that they just… didn’t utilize the expanded IMAX aspect ratio at all. I saw this in IMAX, and while it did make sense when it was regular scenes, as they made the movie look like it was shot on a film camera, but they could’ve at least expanded the aspect ratio when there were scenes with monsters.

Overall quite a good movie that isn’t the best movie of all time, but a really good love letter to classic cinema.

Minions should have ended long ago, each part is more and more stupid and the plot is hopeless

It’sss a minions movie… like you can’t expect a cinematic masterpiece from a kid’s cartoon. But to be honest, it was fair. It’s no Despicable Me or the first Minions movie; but I think it deserves a watch. It had some good slapstick humor, and some borderline dirty jokes, mixed in with a variety of good references, which made the movie enjoyable even if you’re not 12.

This was a actually a super awesome time and I had a laugh out loud amount of fun seeing this in theatres - the jokes are funny, the references are elite, and I dont really care how stupid they are, I hope they keep making these movies bc they are true cartoons

the first half was oddly good. the second half was a let down. I wouldn't have watched it in cinema had the weather been better but it is worth streaming

It was ok there was some funny bits but wouldn’t watch again

Key-jangling but I don't even care because that first half is so fucking good. The second half has fun action and jokes, but that's not why I watched. Can't wait to show my nephews and nieces and explain every homage; hope they don't hate me after! Mbappe Platini.
