I cried a million tears

Great movie, not much to say. Didn’t “love” it, but that’s only because it was sad and I don’t think you’re really meant to. Characters were great, dialogue wonderful.

Wasn’t all that impactful of a story though. Doesn’t stick with you

I took a college elective my freshman year of high school at my local community college. Wanted to finish my elective credits early - so I took screenwriting 101, and this was the first film they showed. I got shushed because I audibly “oooo” everytime she laid down the law

Beyond shock

This movie initially gave me the impression of being your typical sports drama. Act 1: The protagonist pursues their dream and bonds with a seasoned mentor. Act 2: They rise to prominence, and conflicts develop between the two. Act 3: The mentor swoops in at the critical moment to save the day. However, this was far from the case. What I expected to be predictable turned out to be anything but.

The cast delivered exceptional performances, and the writing was outstanding, making for a gripping story. That said, there were two elements that kept this from being a perfect 10/10.

First, the film leaned too heavily into the underdog narrative at the start. While I understand the need to establish the protagonist’s struggles, it felt overdone and could have been more subtle. Second, the portrayal of the mother as unsupportive and insensitive came across as exaggerated and somewhat unrealistic. Dialing it back would have made her character more believable.

Despite these issues, the movie was fantastic, with an unexpected and powerful ending. A solid 8.5/10.

An emotional and devastating film that is truly perfect. Acting, direction, cinematography and script are all phenomenal. The last forty minutes will destroy everyone. One of the greatest films ever made.

SAAAAD. maggie and her coach follow the classic tragic hero’s journey from the catalyst to the demise. starts as tough yet motivational but then turns to teaches the hard lesson of how damaging even a little too much pride can be. def had me in a sad mood for a few days😢
