The most biopic a musical biopic has ever biopic-ed.

Aside from the gross script and the dull way it chooses to shoot the entire film, the other elements of the film are not inherently bad, they’re just super boring and base-level. I never felt a connection to anything beyond the music, which I love, and can’t even be accredited to the film, nor the music videos which are perfectly recreated - but they key bit there being, “recreated”.

You have potentially the most charismatic, best performer of all time, and you choose to capture all that talent in the most boring way possible. A wide shot of the stage - to a shot of the audience - to another wide shot of the stage - aaaand back to the audience… like fuck me! Then the script… dear me - in fairness I imagine a lot of it was chopped up due to the creative hold of the Jackson estate, but then what’s the point.

At least Jaafar Jackson does a mighty, mighty fine job of playing his uncle. The presence of the legend is present in every scene, it’s just a shame he wasn’t given the dialogue to enhance it. Colman Domingo was incredible too, initially I was a bit off-put by the iffy make up from the trailers, but you grow accustomed to it, and feel it as a result of his talent as a performer. Again, I just wish his character was given depth to add to the story and relationship with his family.

Michael Jackson is written with no flaw - purely a victim of the bad from those around him, as a result there is zero depth or any resemblance of an arc. For all its bad, Bohemain Rhapsody showed Freddie being an arsehole, showing that development. Here, they’re too scared to even show a flash of anything remotely negative and that, is its biggest flaw.

An unfortunate disappoint, I’m afraid…

beat it gave me full body chills. great biopic but i do really wish it went a little more in depth about the work he put in and his creative processes. would watch again and again. young michael is insane wow. rest in Piss joseph jackson

Never reading rotten tomatoes again because this movie was incredible absolutely incredible acting was perfect the directing was great it some people say it ends abruptly but it doesn’t his arc is done it’s just a riot a film u need to see on a massive scene 9.8/10 incredible

I’ve been a fan for a LONG time and Jaafar Jackson sounds exactly like his uncle Michael, and he got Michael’s mannerisms down perfectly. They did skip over a few things that would’ve been nice to have been included but overall it was a great movie and every fan should see it.

I can’t believe the level of detail and accuracy they had for this movie, every single time Micheal sang, danced or talked, it felt like you were watching the real guy on screen, they got everything down to his mannerisms right.

The story was great despite me not believing in it when the trailers released, I thought it might’ve been a little loose with the story and just put everything into the music side, but all the actors of the family, the story with Micheal’s dad being a cunt and really making you care about the characters and not just making you feel like your just here for the music were done very very well.

To point out the obvious, the music was obviously insane, all of Micheal’s songs are BANGERS!!! every time he was singing and especially dancing it felt so infectious and incredible to watch, the film makes you realise exactly why this guy was a massive deal.

I think some of the complaints for this movie while valid, really don’t impact the overall experience of the movie or really make me think that this was in any way shape or form bad.

I had so much fun watching this movie, probably one of the best and most fun cinema experiences I’ve had, it felt like I was at a concert some times, but yeah it was amazing!

My score: 8.5/10

they should have just made a concert film because you can tell that’s all they cared about. don’t make a biopic if you have nothing interesting to say about his life, career, or cultural impact

The whole Movie is just a glorified Michael Jackson playlist with an incredibly mediocre story and character development. The background characters each get a confusingly small amount of screen time and no progression story wise at all. The film ends very abruptly and leaves many questions unanswered. Some elements of Michael’s life are overused while other, more important aspects are carelessly overlooked. If you hoped on getting any special or rare information about Michael, you’d be mistaken. You could get more facts about the king of pop from an AI generated summary of his life. The one thing this movie gets right are the actors. Everyone does an amazing job, especially Jafaar Jackson.

Incredibly sanitized, portraying him as an almost messianic figure. Abruptly (and insidiously) ends before the litigious nightmare began so as to not bring up his uglier side. That’s most apparent towards the end where they pad the runtime with song after song.

Was good but the ending was very abrupt and thr animation was lame, felt a bit fake and like a crowd pleaser over a real biopic about his life

wish it went more into his backstory but it was still good overall - will definitely be watching the 2nd movie
