Megalopolis
Upon watching Megalopolis, It is quite the fascinating experience calling it the first time I have seen a Coppola film in the theater. It really gives an experience that can’t really be found at home, and even upon viewing this, I don’t really know what to say. Like it astounds me that Coppola was able to fund a visual delight like this all by himself and even past that. Every actor and actress really put in there all for this film but I am especially impressed with driver and Lebeouf, they were truly spectacular. The films preach-able contents were very mind boggling, with various moments between political ideological discussions, environmental procedures and empowerment issues come to play. Overall it outstands me how could have a field day with trashing on this dream project. I might have to give it a rewatch.

I thought that I would probably be intrigued by a potential thought provoking story this movie might have but I’m not even being hyperbolic when I say that this was one of the worst movies I’ve ever sat through. This clearly wasn’t for me because I found nothing entertaining

1.8 - “Well, that movie was kinda ass.” - the only other guy in the theater at my 10pm showing last night. I have to agree. Everything about it is overstuffed & excessive from the set pieces, to the acting & line delivery, to the script - it felt laughable but no one laughed. I think there’s some thematic through lines about technology & world improvement, but it’s the least cohesive story I’ve ever experienced. It has what feels like moments of grandeur, I just don’t know what I watched. And for something that took 40 years to come together, I have already forgotten way too much of it over night. I might give it another chance if it streams & see if anything else can click into place. Maybe I fell asleep & didn’t realize it. But this ensemble, this directing & writing team, & this modern era of filmmaking should have been able to do this idea infinitely more justice.

I’m sure for many like myself, this is their first time seeing a Coppola film in a theater. It is beautiful, and demonstrates FFC’s mastery behind the camera. I will admit that it’s hard to follow, but if I can give my interpretation on it in the little words that I have, I will do that for you now: As the opening credits state, this is a fable. A fable about learning from the past so you can embrace change and build for the future. About not having to rely on vices to get you through, don’t let greed drive success, accept your shortcomings and learn from them, stand up for what you believe in and work for your loves. If at any point you have disagreed with what Coppola’s opinions are on the general landscape of Hollywood today, you might not like this film. A good film is entertaining, it explores the artistry and nuance of the craft and it challenges you emotionally and challenges you mentally. It makes you think. It sparks conversation and helps you appreciate the escapism you went there for while also letting you know that there is still a world out there you have to go back to and interact with. And hopefully it helps you to see that world just a little bit differently than you did before stepping foot in that theater. In my opinion this is a beautiful, wild and complex film that does exactly that. It deserves both a rewatch from myself and a watch from those who are as intrigued in this as I was. 👍🏻 8/10

I don’t like it nor do I think it’s good. I get the message but the execution really lacks.
I liked the beginning, it made me want to know more. But the movie keeps contradicting itself and the end really leaves you hanging. What’s the point of this movie?
I kept thinking “wtf”

Tristan Tate, pulled up a video, his favorite whiskey, Johnnie Walker. What do I do at duty-free? Fucking Johnnie Walker. That night, sipping the fucking Johnnie Walker in the war room by myself with him chilling. Why? I studied, bro.

0/ what a bad bad bad movie. The whole time I was thinking “shall I go home or rest my eyes for a while” (I chose the 2nd option for a bit). Some actors didn’t get the memo and the storyline is just sooo off. Some lines were also extremely corny..

I feel bad for feeling so displeased by Coppla piece. There's afew reasons why I think this fails for the most part. The cast to start with is a complete hit and miss. The modern/future cinema style is atrocious, it follows after the likes of Disney. I can't believe the budget either, yes there's some beautiful shots but 90% of this looks like greenscreen. There's a quote about how art should reflect the times. That's one thing this achieved. It's chaotic and messy, unpredictable and cryptic, dangerous and dense. It's what we all ignore. A tutorial on how we could achieve greatness but instead refuse to. I haven't seen anyone talk about what this film stands for, how it ridicules itself and the audience.

This movie has already taken up enough time… So all i’m going to say is Coppola fumbled big time. Crazy how the same guy who co-wrote and directed the Godfather wrote and directed this.
My boy Shia pulled through, the ONLY good thing about this mess.

It’s very funny how people think this is random af…there are a lot of political and non political references that are happening right now in the world and that just flew over people’s heads? Crazy… stick to the fast and furious franchise if you couldn’t read this extremely forward critic which was this movie.
But in case you are mature enough and you are looking for answers:
Think of:
America
Capitalism
Power hunger
These are 3 that are big in this movie but not the only ones, please think with caution and don’t jump to conclusions very quickly, sit on it… although from what I’m seeing, not a lot of hope.

simply terrible. i have no fucking idea how francis the creator & mastermind of the godfather wrote this garbage of a film. cast is golden don’t get me wrong. BUT what the actual fuck was francis thinking, was he on molly when he wrote this shit??? it’s so random not even einstein could understand. my brain literally stopped working and i fell asleep, i never fall asleep at the movies… i just couldn’t take it, my neck hurts. don’t watch this huge flop of a film. nothing was good besides the cast. i hope francis redeems himself with a masterpiece before he stops breathing. 2 / 10

I have genuinely no clue what I spent 3 hours watching… it was literally impossible to follow. It had a great cast but that wasn’t enough to keep me trying to decipher the “generational story that will give us glimpse into the future”. It was too weird and sexual for my liking but if you like a sexual mess than this is for you.
ps: there were some really cool shots and beautiful creativity but it wasn’t notable enough to change my opinion on the movie as a whole.

After all this time, I’ve finally seen Megalopolis, and it isn’t as bad as so many say. I understand what Coppola was trying to symbolize to convey with the real world, politically and metaphorically, yet its execution and editing ruined it all. Visually stunning, nonetheless.
