Maxine solving overpopulation one ball stomp at a time.

5.9 - a movie full of good moments that fall fairly flat overall. Ti West again captures the aesthetics of the chosen era well. The callbacks, Easter eggs, montages & neon lit settings, over the constant chatter of satanic panic & serial killers all set the scene perfectly for a gory Hollywood crime thriller of a trilogy finale. But the story falters down the stretch & is totally lost by the 3rd act. No development, no reckoning with the events of Texas, a messy but predictable climax, & only one good onscreen kill. Mia Goth has star power worthy of Maxine’s dreams but this was a firmly middling disservice to its predecessors.

Nice way to wrap up the trilogy but this was definitely the least slasher-y of the bunch. Ranking order would be X, Maxxxine, & Pearl. Kudos to the entire team for churning these movies out in a 5 year span!

the first two were simply so much better

Aw man, I’m honestly disappointed. As a lover of the first 2 films in this trilogy I’m genuinely disappointed in how this series ended. The movie felt overstuffed, rushed and unfocused. I wish the main focus of the film was Maxine’s rise to star-level fame while internally dealing with the aftermath of the events of X & the impact of those events while a killer is roaming Hollywood Instead we got… something close to that but not quite. I meant seeing her actual film her scenes for her big movie much like in X. Also bringing in the night stalker, a real life serial killer into a fictional universe was a terrible idea and it took me out of the movie a bit. Not to say that this movie is entirely bad, Mia Goth is excellent and the supporting cast is super fun and tons of parallels for eagle eyed fans to spot but beneath all the glitzy cinematography and gnarly kills lies an unsatisfying conclusion that crushes any hope left for fans of the trilogy.

I thought I was seated for the movie of the year, it wasn’t quite that. Nonetheless, an overall fun time, but with a very non-gag worthy reveal and 3rd act, with lots of lackluster wrap-ups on its many plot lines. Very fierce though, everyone should go see for it themselves !!

A great film about a woman coming to terms with her trauma & a homage to giallo films. Until the third act, which is too over-the-top & campy. Ti West does best recent period pieces because he shows you morals/decadence of time rather than just the look. Mia Goth is phenomenal.

I really liked X and Pearl but I got to say that I was quite underwhelmed and a little disappointed with MaXXXine. I think it’s an okay conclusion to a pretty good trilogy but I guess I was just expecting a lot more. Honestly, it was the whole 3rd act reveal that let me down

My brain says Ti West didn’t stick the landing, but my heart wants to believe it was the masterpiece to cap off the best modern horror trilogy. Still a lot of style, jaw dropping moments, and connective fiber to X and Pearl, but not an instant love. Maybe rewatches will move me.

ugh i just love this trilogy so much
there’s something about the theme of using christianity as an excuse for actions that are worse than the supposed satanism they claim to be against that always hits
just like X, it’s just something you gotta think to appreciate the themes

A great conclusion to the horror trilogy… I love how each movie piggy-backs off the previous one while still feeling unique and stand-alone in their own ways… Pearl will always be my favorite of the bunch but I just love the world building within the films and the common themes 🔪

there's something so eerie but so euphoric about the 80's. loved this movie's vibes, dynamic and its references to real life events from that decade.
