Masters of the Universe
The action/fights are phenomenal, and 90% of the time it’s beautiful to look at. That’s about as far as the compliments go.
This movie is made for 40-50 year old lobotomised man children, there’s absolutely no sense of logic and nothing makes sense, the movie makes no effort to explain anything that happens, things just happen and you just go along because you don’t expect this movie to try and make you understand it, it’s colour and fights and who cares about the rest.
I nearly walked out many times, I couldn’t stand how unwatchable some scenes were, it’s so cringe. Every single character right down to skeletor himself is joking or is the butt of something humerus, and humerus is used very loosely, its millennial throwaway unserious stupid stuff that nobody should be laughing at. But apparently all the 40 year olds haven’t had much experience with genuinely funny comedy because the most embarrassingly stupid slapstick thing could happen and all of them would start chuckling like they’ve never done before.
All the characters are so undefined, one dimensional and forgettable that it makes me think about why I should care about anything that’s going on.
Could you tell Amazon distributed this movie? I could, exactly when the monster that came to earth that was tanking hits from Teela had the most damage done to him by an Amazon delivery truck. In a masters of the universe movie? Smh
I also don’t know what age group this was made for, they make jokes about fisting, giving head and other stuff I can’t remember that’s not appropriate for kids, but everything else about the movie makes me think it’s just a kids movie? I don’t get it.
I just couldn’t with this movie, nothing about it makes it a good movie, as an action movie it succeeds but as anything else it’s an embarrassment. It’s just so stupid.
My score: 4/10

Masters of the Pooniverse. I was hoping to enjoy this, but my 6/10 rating still feels way too generous. In some ways, the casting is spot on, but in most, it falls short. The visual work, from practical effects to CGI, looks fantastic in some parts and iffy in others. I wanted and expected a parody, but the comedy just feels lazy and the tone uneven. At least there are some cool references. The biggest bad guys in my eyes are the pacing and inconsistencies. The emotional pulls feel nonsensical, and the story has way too many silly weak points within the writing. Meh.

What makes it all worth it is a stellar soundtrack, hilarious jokes, and Galitzine playing the sweetest, most caring version of He-Man fans have ever gotten.

Needs the person who did the soundtrack for guardians of the galaxy. Should have leaned more into 80s glam or power rock over wordless guitar solos

This movie tried to be Guardians of the Galaxy and failed. The CGI was decent, but the dialogue was awful and the character arcs found wanting. Maybe being more aware of the source material would help, but from an objective outside perspective, I can safely say I won’t be watching this again.

Loved it. Mix of Flash Gordon and John Carter. Right up my alley. Best score I've heard in a long time.

Surprisingly not bad! Certainly silly and often cheesy, but definitely by design to match the cartoon on which it’s based. I fear it may not work for all…
I really appreciate the effort made to use a lot of practical sets over green screen, of course it’s there, but more sets were kicking about than I assumed. Writing is okay for the most part, it really tries to push big emotional character moments, but they don’t feel grounded by enough development to leave the desired impact.
Always a big fan of Nicholas Galitzine, thrilled to see a big role land for him like this. Dude got into crazy shape for it, certainly helped having eye candy the whole film. Camila Mendes too, she’s always been held into the “Rom-com” space - great to see a breakout of that!
My biggest gripe is that they cast Jared Leto as the lead villain, but like in the same way as Jeremy Allen White in The Mandalorian and Grogu, his voice is altered entirely beyond recognition and he’s never physically seen - a strange, strange trend that’s happening…

It was fine. The timing of conversation and action was off. There was too much time for characters to run away but made to seem like they “barely” escaped. Or the villain would step away but was screaming “NOOO” in another shot. 🤷🏻♀️ The costume was good for the main cast.

Honestly I wasn’t expecting much. The action was fun. Love all the meme references. I can see what they were trying to do. Strength is more than being strong but they never really went deep into it. Felt shoehorned at the end almost like they forgot.

To be fair, I have not seen the original film or cartoon so I feel like I missed out on a lot of the references, but I got the gist of it. It was entertaining enough and the story had potential, but in the end it fell kind of flat for me.
