The storyline of the movie isn't particularly compelling or groundbreaking. It mostly revolves around some troublesome kids who are finally tamed and transformed by a nanny who embodies everything their previous guardians lacked — the complete opposite of the cookie cutter perfect environment they were raised in. While this premise might seem like a classic tale of redemption or growth, it doesn't really pack the emotional punch one might expect. What stands out, however, is the visual spectacle. I'm assuming the movie gained popularity mostly because of its groundbreaking effects at the time, as well as its incredibly creative and outlandish scenes. These effects are undeniably impressive in their own right but have, in hindsight, aged in ways that can seem unintentionally comical due to technological advancements that would now deem them elementary. Some of the scenes come across as so over-the-top that they evoke an almost absurd kind of humor — the kind of rudimentary special effects you might expect to see in a middle schooler’s DIY video project, where the ambition outweighs the execution. The level of ridiculousness often makes me laugh until I cry, as some of the moments are so far removed from reality that they can't help but seem hilariously absurd. One of the most puzzling moments in the movie has to be the neighbor firing a cannon, a scene that feels completely out of place and doesn’t seem to serve any logical narrative purpose. Why would someone fire a cannon in this setting? The randomness of it only adds to the overall sense of chaos in the film, leaving you scratching your head in confusion. Despite all of this, perhaps the most unintentionally hilarious part of the film is the character of the boy. He seems to be in a constant state of semi-consciousness or stupor, as if perpetually dazed and confused. Every time the camera focuses on him, you can’t help but notice how his eyes are half-lidded, and sometimes even wander in different directions. It's like he's in a constant battle to find an expression that fits, but instead of settling on one, he tries to incorporate every possible emotion into a single facial gesture — making for some truly absurd moments. It’s as if he’s trying to act out confusion, curiosity, and indifference all at once, and yet none of it ever quite works. It's both funny and a little awkward, but it adds to the charm of the film in an unexpected way.

It was my first time watching Mary Poppins, and for a musical, it works surprisingly well. The story follows a father who is constantly working and barely spends time with his children, a mother who is often away from home fighting for women’s right to vote in England, and two mischievous siblings whom nobody seems willing to take care of—until Mary Poppins arrives.
The choreography is highly synchronized, and the songs never become boring or feel excessive. The special effects are also quite impressive for their time. Some of them may look a little dated or even cheesy by today’s standards, but they work perfectly within the film’s fantasy and comedic tone.
Mary Poppins represents family stability and the importance of parents actually spending time with their children. She also represents the idea of allowing our inner child to come out and play, even when we become adults with responsibilities. This message remains relevant today. Parents are still constantly working and often don’t spend enough time with their children. Sometimes, they need to stop and realize that they may be neglecting what matters more than work: their family.
The only thing I can’t forgive the movie for is that I really wish Mary Poppins and Bert had ended up together. 😂 Their chemistry was great, and I definitely wanted to see that relationship develop further.
Overall, Mary Poppins is a charming, entertaining, and visually imaginative film that is definitely worth watching at least once in your life. 💯

this movie was such a fever dream in fact I felt like a vegetable the entire time watching it I was literally expressionless and once I came back to reality and texted my friend about the movie I started laughing so hard cuz wtf did I just watch at 3 in the morning😭 I was so engrossed in the movie that I couldn’t pull myself out of it and I'm still laughing as I'm writing this comment please everything was so surreal, though I must admit Julie Andrews is so pretty
