It was good, but all over the place. It would mention one thing and then move on from it, then come back to it later etc.. whole thing with the dog, that led to nowhere, orange ping pong balls, which also led to nowhere… just felt like it was dragging on.

When I watched Uncut Gems, I was not in the right state of mind. I wanted a quick, easy, non-stressful movie that we could just throw on as we chill out. Uncut Gems was not that movie. But, for Marty Supreme, I knew EXACTLY what to expect. I knew it would be stressful, I knew it would be loud, and I knew it would be overwhelming. So, this time, I absolutely loved it.

It really is incredible how chaotic Safdie was able to make this movie. In the second act, there are SO many scenes where a bunch of people are yelling all at once, and it creates total sensory overload. It stressed me out like no other movie has (again, besides Uncut Gems). And that’s SO COOL. It makes so much sense for the movie, and it is so fitting as the movie follows Marty finding himself in increasingly more undesirable situations.

And, let’s talk about Marty. Timothée Chalamet was absolutely fantastic in this movie. Marty is both insanely charismatic and appealing as well as incredibly egotistical, impulsive, and selfish, and he’s able to juggle all those traits with such ease. I haven’t seen him in many things besides this and Dune, but I can absolutely agree with people that this is my favorite role that I’ve seen him in.

I also think this concept is just so fun. When I first heard that this movie would be about “ping-pong,” I was admittedly pretty skeptical. How on earth do you make a compelling movie about ping-pong? But, as soon as I sat down to watch the movie, it made complete sense to me. It’s about so much more than just ping-pong, but it still remains at the core of the movie — it’s all just so well done.

This movie is VERY, VERY similar to Uncut Gems. Like, I felt like I was just watching a remake of the same movie at points — it’s that similar. That could be a fault to some people, but it really wasn’t to me. I ended up liking this one more not only due to the fact that I was just more mentally prepared for this style of movie, but also because Timothée Chalamet really just put it on another level for me. Great, great movie.

Literally a movie about nothing. No context for anything going on. All dialogue was just people talking over each other, very overstimulating + repetitive. Lots of things that could have been significant to the plot were completely disregarded. Way too long for a mediocre ending

Man this movie was overwhelming and so all over the place. I loved the beginning w the grinding and doing anything he needed to in order to succeed but that got tiring in the second half of the movie. So many plot points and characters could have simply been written out and it would have made just as much sense. Also him being involved in multiple murders and crimes and NOTHING COMING OF IT???? Marty is just not someone u find yourself rooting for by the end
Things that could have been cut out because they led nowhere: the orange ping pong balls, the dog, that creepy guy w the gun could have been completely cut all together, Gwyneth and the plot of them in Central Park? Just take the necklace and run man she already knows you’re playing her and using her for cash so why the fuck did u need to hook up in the middle of Central Park??
WHY THE FUCK DID THEY MAKE A BIG DEAL ABOOUT PLAYING PING PONG W A WHITE BALL A BIG DEAL AT THE BEGINNING IF THEY WEREN’T GOING TO HAVE HIM PLAY W AN ORANGE BALL AT THE END????????????? to show they’re both good enough to play in white clothes and with a white ball? Fine. CUT OUT THE ORANGE BALLS IT LEAD NO. WHERE. he just screwed over his friend who made him the balls and guess what. Nothing came of that either. No repercussions.
MAN the absolute end of the movie was so overwhelming Everybody Wants to Rule the World playing as we hear babies crying over it??? My god it gave me a headache

9.7 - It’s been two days & I’m still buzzing.

Marty Supreme is absolutely electric & I know I’m going to get even more out of it on future watches.

If anyone was still unsure if Timothy Chalamet has all the sauce, stop. He is everything he says he is, & has been for years, & I respect the hell out of him owning it.

I was the smallest bit nervous for this, despite it being on my 2025 most anticipated list, because I wasn’t the biggest Uncut Gems fan & am overall just wary on the Safdie style, but this hit in every way. It felt just as frantic & anxious, but I think Josh Safdie was able to take all his learnings from his other projects & refine them enough here.

The script & screenplay are layered & full, & yet the pace is immaculate, never once feeling boring or long despite its run time. The supporting performances are all solid, despite some “why are they there” initial reactions to the cast. Odessa A’zion especially holds her own extremely well in a top line cast of all stars.

My biggest issue is dangling story threads. What happened with Kay at the party? Did Marty make good with Wally (probably know the answer here)? Did Dion make his money back or get his business off the ground?

But honestly, not knowing is perfect for this story. It’s Marty’s story, it’s his quest, & none of that matters to him or his goals.

I saw someone call this evil mirror Rocky, & that’s a pretty great assessment. There’s just not may better looks at the true American dream. Rob Peter to pay Paul, work your ass off, step on whoever you need to, believe when you absolutely shouldn’t, & somehow come out on top.

I cannot wait to get back in theaters for round two.

it’s started off sooo strong then the shit with the dog started. like wtf. a lot of movies now a days has a very very strong main plot but their side plots are too big for the movie. if i can support a whole other movie just off of your side plots, its just too fucking much.

marty was so annoying but he probably could’ve pulled me if i was being real just based off of his glasses. but as soon as he started talking he lost me.

it just got so boring at some point. as someone who HATED one battle after another, if you like it you’ll LOVE marry supreme

Going into this thinking it’s a ping pong movie was a wild ride. It is the definition of shit hitting the fan. Timothy did great in the madness. So hard because you want to cheer for The Marty Supreme but he’s a butt cheek. Yes, I used that term on purpose because I didn’t think I would be seeing Timmy cheeks several times. The bathtub scene had me rolling. I admire the chase for greatness but the disregard for others and consequences is insane to watch.

A few scenes to skip through. Be careful out there.

anxiety at its peak.

stellar performance by timothee. easily his best acting to this day. i would say dune… but he was built for this role.

wanted more ping pong but we got more drama, i guess to showcase how tough marty’s life was and how desperate he was to get into the championship.

amazing cinematography, loved the film look. glad i caught it in theaters before.

that first tournament was my favorite part of the film.

i kinda understood the ending but it left me wanting another tournament.

great film overall

Truly painful to watch. Perhaps it’s just me and I’m over films featuring toxic male archetypes who never get their comeuppance?

If we’re gonna applaud Timothée’s acting, I’m not sure anymore that he’s not just playing himself? Or he only takes these roles now? What is reality?

This movie was mid at best. The only part that was enjoyable is the soundtrack which feels discordant due to the time period of the movie and the 80’s synth frenetic pacing. I personally feel like people are over stories about shitty men and their lives creating chaos to everyone around them - but alas then movies like this come out and I question who prefers these stories and why they are still being funded. I have had many a conversation around if movies like this are even ethical with the glamorization of these menace to society being idealized as aspirations, but I think that’s a bigger conversation that people who are enjoying this movie can’t participate in the nuances. Overall - worst movie I saw of the year.
