Macbeth
4/5 ⭐️
One of my favorite works of Shakespearean literature. Orson Welles presents a dark and atmospheric adaptation, filled with fog, shadows, and minimal lighting that gives the film a mysterious and almost haunting quality. Welles not only directs the film but also takes on the role of Macbeth, delivering a compelling performance and doing an impressive job of translating Shakespeare’s work from the stage to the big screen.
What I particularly enjoyed about this adaptation is that it never loses its theatrical essence. The staging, performances, and visual composition sometimes make you feel as though you are watching the play unfold right in front of you. Welles successfully preserves that theatrical quality while using the language of cinema to create a world that feels dark, eerie, and almost dreamlike.
