Lolita
Hated the pedo even more in this adaptation probably because this one is more explicit. If you’re interested in the story but have strong triggers watch the 60’s. Still a good movie tho & very depressing
Also you’re a terrible person if you romanticize this.

I DO NOT consider this a romance movie or romanticize it! I also wish we could have seen it from her point of view.

"Well what did you expect? I was a daisy fresh girl and look what you've done to me."
Lolita is a well adapted movie created from a horrible and disgusting story. Told from the perspective of Humbert, his perception of Dolores makes it to where she seems promiscuous and constantly teasing.
She is not. It is obvious Dolores is in a constant state of distress. She uses Humbert's attraction for her against him, hitting him and using sex as a means of income saying "I earned that money." He then smacks her in a fit of rage, which I believe was him realizing his power over her as a little girl, as well as her claiming these acts are something 'she must do'.
He is sick and deranged. Jeremy Irons did an excellent job demonstrating the discomfort Humbert's character gives. His adoration for Dolores and the grooming that prevented her from ever living a normal life makes him a very easy character to hate, of course, and Irons did well to make it that way, though he did not need much work to do so.
Dominique did amazing with her portrayal as Dolores, as well. Showing her childlike behavior that forces the audience to notice 'this is a child'. No matter how Humbert perceived her, she was a playful and mischievous child who lived a life that was never truly hers. She escaped one pedophile to be embraced by another, claiming that she appreciated him more. When Clare confessed they never did anything, I believe she said that because she was able to be around another man who didn't force her into a position as Humbert has done, and this made him a hero in her eyes.
When she addressed Humbert as 'dad' and he was visibly disheartened, wanting to be more. It disgusted me throughout the movie, which is what it was trying to do.
And Charlotte. I understand she was not the best mother. Dolores had to take her berating because her mother was so in love with Humbert, but she really did want to be loved. I did not like that she was jealous of her daughter, but I feel bad for her. And of course, for Dolores.
