Kill the Irishman
Rating: 6.8/10
Kill the Irishman is a solid, gritty, and well-cast gangster biopic that's elevated by a fantastic lead performance and an incredible supporting cast. The film tells the fascinating true story of Danny Greene's war with the Cleveland Mafia.
Highlights
- Fantastic Cast: Ray Stevenson shines as Danny Greene, surrounded by a talented supporting cast, including Vincent D'Onofrio, Christopher Walken, and Val Kilmer.
- Gritty and Authentic: The film has a grounded, gritty feel that effectively captures the working-class roots of its characters and the brutal nature of the conflict.
- Compelling Story: The true story is fascinating, violent, and almost too wild to be believed.
Criticisms
- Flat Direction: The direction is competent but often feels flat and uninspired, giving the film a TV movie feel.
- Rushed Pacing: The film tries to cram decades of a complex true story into a short runtime, making the pacing feel rushed and uneven.
- Underdeveloped Characters: Some supporting characters feel underdeveloped despite the talented actors playing them.
Verdict
Kill the Irishman is a solid and entertaining gangster film that's a must-see for its incredible cast alone. It's a fascinating true story that's well-told, if not spectacularly directed. Fans of the mob genre and character actors will enjoy it.

Kill the Irishman
Got straight to the point and was very well paced. Really enjoyed the style and the soundtrack. The car bombs felt a bit repetitive but it actually happened in real life so can’t complain. A lot of good actors in this movie as well, surprised it’s not more popular.
