Kai Po Che!
This is cinema. The feeling is incomparable and it's something I yearn for in today's films.
It's so beautifully shot. The soundtrack is like a breath of fresh air. The script, the emotions, raw and real.
Nothing feels contrived. Events unfold with an authenticity that feels unscripted. I feel like I've entered a world I've been too privileged to experience myself. The struggles, the pain, the suppression are difficult to watch, but never exploited. The Gujarat earthquake and the Godhra train burning left no one untouched, yet the same devastation that should have united people only deepened the religious divide.
Three friends with completely different personalities who accepted each other as they are. Their differing personal priorities, conflicting political viewpoints, and personal values pull them in different directions. Religious and political polarization not only divided society, but created a divide amongst friends who were inseparable. By the end, you're left mourning not just what was lost, but what could have been.
This film has become one close to my heart. A coming-of-age film that reminds you why cinema matters.
