i really enjoyed the concept it was really interesting, and that’s really the only thing keeping me from putting “meh”. it has so many layers that it starts to get confusing- which i expected, but still wayyy to long of a movie to be confused for most of it

Maybe this was a bad introduction to David Lynch, but this film had little to offer for me. It felt meaningless and incoherent for the majority of its lengthy runtime. It’s not meant to be understood, but rather experienced, of which I didn’t enjoy much.

I like to consider myself a guy with, at least, decent intelligence. But I have to say, just after the hour mark of this three hour movie went by - I had completely lost all sense of what was going on…
I’m not 100% sure there was even anything going on, at least not that was intentionally coherent. I really don’t think the “plot” was especially important to Lynch, rather him using the film as a statement on the creative process. In one sense through Dern’s character embodying her role, but also more literally with Lynch simply playing around with creative limitations of digital cameras - primarily the latter, or at least that’s what I’m going to tell myself…
Whilst taking not anything meaningful from the… “plot”? I am going to remember the immense sound design with some tremendous musical choices. The images captured too, with all their low quality imperfections too - somehow marinating a weird sense of beauty.
Laura Dern was really, really good here. She had this confused look slapped on her face which mirrored mine. Jeremy Irons too, although he’s never once disappointed me.
Despite slipping into a mind-numbing daze several times, I did enjoy my time with Inland Empire. It’s a creative adventure, not in storytelling but in trying to capture emotion through a variety of different images and sounds. Not what I was expecting, but I’ll take it anyway.

You need to truly believe that there’s no such thing as reality, as you get lost in this vast empire and no limit to what a human mind can achieve.

An interesting watch as are all lynch movies but this one definitely captures a particular aura and tone, almost felt like a noir mystery

Probably the least coherent and most unsettling of all the lynch films
Laura Dern killed it

I hesitate to make this complaint as a general rule because I understand that building suspense takes time. However, I did not find the plot or the characters captivating enough to keep me interested. I simply believe there are better slow burns out there.

I wish I got David Lynch films. It’s hard to determine what’s real and what’s not, as well as what’s relevant vs irrelevant. This movie dragged for the middle hour, leaving me ready for the end. Definitely a movie where you have to succumb to the randomness.

only lynch could make a three-hour surreal horror film shot on a camcorder work as well as this does; incredibly engrossing, unique, and interesting throughout its runtime as it descends into absurd and beyond unnerving territory. what a visionary; laura dern is an all-time great

This is David Lynch at his most David Lynch. This is incredibly strange and hard to follow but I loved every minute of this. This is one of my new favorites by him.

I adore strange and eccentric movies, but I genuinely thought that this movie was extremely dull. It had its moments overall, but in the end, it fell too flat for me to even particularly care for. For the running time, I have to say I was disappointed.
