House of 1000 Corpses

House of 1000 Corpses retains a chokehold of tension across its entire near 90 minute runtime. A nasty, depraved film full of masterful editing and twisted cinematography make for a horrifying introduction to Mr Zombie’s greasy, grindhouse style. 9.9/10

It’s not that I don’t love this film- it’s just that so many of the ideas are *that* cool. Stupid to explain but all of the shots people go nuts about. . What drives ME nuts is that if there was just a better prod crew, all of the super creative awesome shots could be just that much cooler. Rob zombie is great but imagine what this film could have been with the additional help of a serious seasoned pro. Again. Not bad. I understand that so much of the charm lies in execution, budget, and name attachments, but my take stands 🙏

Now this is 2000’s horror camp. I love Captin Spaulding and Otis Driftwood. Mary deserved it, she was so annoying. (4-20-25)
