Gritty watch, really good film

What a Saturday night fellas. Pretty dank watch. Good modern western Chris pine and Jeff bridges are goats. If shit ever sucks to bad I’m just gonna drive to bum fuck Texas and rob banks. Seems like a good rush. Lots of good outlaw music too.

It’s endlessly baffling to me how David Mackenzie can go from this, to Relay and Fuze… completely different ends of the spectrum.

Hell or High Water just feeeels good, which is weird as it’s a pretty grizzly and depressing tale. But it just feels “proper” in every sense - it looks stunning, despite the dirty, broken landscapes it captures, score is stunning, perfectly capture that modern-western vibe. Writing is strong, it’s Taylor Sheridan so go figure, but it feels far more Sicario-adjacent than anything he’s written since, unfortunately…

Much more grown-up role for Chris Pine, it’s not usually his schtick - but it suits him, and frankly I wish he did more projects like this. Ben Foster is just dumbfoundingly good a playing the dickhead role, it’s almost worrying - he’s tremendous here. Great stuff from Jeff Bridges and Gil Birmingham, like my first watch, their chemistry was one of the highlights for me.

I think Mackenzie needs to take a serious step-back and have a look and what he’s outputting. His filmmaking talent is tried and tested, proved even! But the more recent stuff really isn’t it I’m afraid.

This is one of the best westerns in modern times and has unfortunately been seen by too few, spread the word!! This movie is amazing!

Awesome and very underrated heist film that feels like a modern western.
The film was so well written and acted that it feels like a instant classic. Overall it looked absolutely amazing.
