a perfect conclusion to harry potter. part one may have fallen a little short but man does the story catapult into this film so so well. performances are amazing, action is amazing, characters are amazing, music is amazing. my god the music is so iconic and beautiful.

i don’t think there will ever be anything quite like harry potter again. i feel lucky enough to have grown up with the films, which make them hit just that much harder, but it’s far from a requirement to recognize the beauty. you see these characters grow up on screen which makes the consequences feel so much more dire as you get to the end. they balance epic scale and wonder so well, especially in this one.

a testament to how well they pulled off the scale of the wizarding world is the battle of hogwarts. it is the culmination of everything and it is so massive and so tragic and brutal and just so well done. characters you’ve grown to love over such a long period of time are killed just like that and you can’t question it. man is it harrowing in such a bittersweet way.

speaking of characters we’ve grown to love, all of the character development across this series is done to perfection. they mature as the films progress, certainly, but they never lose who they are, even in the darkest moments, which i think is the prefect way to handle characters that people have grown so close to.

ron and hermione in the chamber of secrets is a beautiful scene. they have such amazing chemistry and to finally see the payoff of everything they had been through together was great.

another fantastic scene is snape’s memory. man oh man it will never fail to make me cry. what a deeply nuanced, tragic, and beautiful character that is brought to life so wonderfully by alan rickman.

i really just love every minute of this movie. gringotts, their return to hogwarts, their reunion with everyone, harry with the ghosts, harry “coming back” to life, the final sequence with harry and voldemort, just everything. the list goes on but those are all the scenes i can think of off the top of my head. so much emotional depth in all of those scenes it’s ridiculous.

there’s really nothing wrong with this movie (hence the 10); i truly think they finished the story perfectly. an absolute masterclass in storytelling across all the films with a truly perfect conclusion.

i forgot how much i worshipped emma watson in these films. my lord is she perfect.

i’m putting this film in love and in the perfection collection because, of course, it deserves it, but also as a representative of the entire series.

i’m so glad harry potter came back to theaters and i was reminded of how much this franchise means to me. i feel so connected to it in a way that i’m almost disappointed this is as close i can ever get to it. a very bittersweet feeling.
