Folk Horror Fall continues… this movie is harsh, brutal & nihilistic. It’s is depression. It is an unfriendly caretaker. It is a child weighed down by life before ever having a chance. Greedy. Hungry. Evil. It ends and yet you know for those girls, their outcome is bleak. It is a very well crafted film. Beautiful, but stark. Small cast, Gwen and mother do the heavy lifting and do it very well. It is not a feel good movie. It’s not even a feel bad movie. It’s more I feel nothing and nothing will I ever feel.
