Guns & Moses
2.3 - This is finally ready for release and showings were promoted to me on another app so now I think I am free to review it fully.
As a note, I received a screener of it last January (2024), it had a different title (The Man in the Long Black Coat), & not much completed in the way of production (music, effects, etc were still raw in some places). And with the delay, the title change, & general world happenings, I wasn’t sure it would ever be fully released.
I honestly don’t remember a lot of the individual beats, but I did take a couple short notes down.
In its core as a neo-western mystery thriller, it’s tropey & predictable but serviceable. When layered with its Judaism elements & the conversations around neo-nazism, it falls apart. It felt many times like it was trying to teach but the messages were mixed or incomplete.
I don't want to completely knock it, because as I said I don’t fully remember the details, & I don’t know what revisions & maybe reshoots took place, but I know at the time I gave the feedback this had a long way to go. And I don’t think it’ll be worth the rewatch.
