Two unemployed friends have a fresh idea: they want to stage Shakespeare's 'Hamlet' in Grand Theft Auto. But even in a virtual world, reality intrudes in a wild and trippy film shot entirely inside the ultra-violent video game.

Grand Theft Hamlet

“YOU CAN’T KILL ART MOTHERFUCKERS!”

I gotta tell you, I’m so proud of everyone who worked on this, they tried so hard, overcoming obstacles in theatre no one else has, like making sure the blimp doesn’t explode when doing a scene, or even making sure you don’t get blow up with a rocket launcher on accident.

Grand Theft Hamlet is something I am gonna recommend endlessly, it’s something everyone needs to see, mainly because I believe it’ll get people who have no interest in video games, into them within the hour. I also found it really impressive that the team had a budget of like £40 and 3 three tacos, and still managed to make something so innovative, even in such a modern time.

1st Act 8.6/10 (I’ve literally been involved in this part of a project, and gotta say, I’m surprised they made it past this bit, also give Mark a hug man.)

2nd Act 9.2/10 (Adds real struggles that the team is facing into the Doc, which is absolutely crucial to have, no matter how personal.)

3rd Act 9.4/10 (Seeing all the passion and hard work come together, especially for such hard working and well deserving people is a dream to see.)

Plot 10/10 (Innovative and requires serious dedication, and they made it work.)

Soundtrack/Score 9.3/10 (Honestly it shouldn’t have been as good as it was.)

Acting N/A (It’s a doc, I can’t rate the acting inside the movie, which is inside something else.)

Pacing 7.8/10 (Great but I do have problems with documentaries not being fast paced.)

Cinematography 8.7/10 (For what they were doing it was great, but then again it’s GTA Online, photo mode can only do so much.)

Character Development N/A (Real people.)

Writing N/A (Real Events)

Ending 8.8/10 (Glad to see they won awards, well deserved.)

Direction 8.2/10 (Sam did what was necessary, but we are polar opposites of directors, he directs with kindness and only gets so much, I direct with relentless practice and acknowledge you won’t like me, and I’m cool with that, just do your best, OR ARE YOU GONNA BE ON MY FUCKING TIME. So gotta doc some points for all the compliments he kept giving.)
