8/10. Great. An overall great, if uneven film that stops short of reaching true greatness because of some rough performances, cliche writing, and pacing issues. Nevertheless, Eastwood is magnificent, certain scenes are brilliant, and the ending is quite good. Fascinating message.

This movie suffers from “white savior complex.” What seems to be a story about a bigoted neighbor learning to accept his Asian family neighbors comes across more as a justification to paint bigotry as something to just brush off.

Gran Torino is a nuanced picture with incredible heart, humor, and melodramatic themes of acceptance and long-overdue redemption.

One of my all time favorites! I cry every time I watch it. Such a great development of Walt’s character and a beautifully written story. I love this movie
