Easy contender for “best film for mum and dad” of the year.

You’d have thought for how vocally critical he is, Brian Cox would have directed a more interesting, content-full film - alas not. It’s very shallow, safe and aims purely to be a crowd-pleaser for what has to be a pretty specific target audience.

Not sure Alexandra Shipp or the young girl who played her daughter gave a single convincing line delivery, both like nails on a chalkboard. Brian Cox was cheerier than normal, with Cumming doing a lot of brooding whilst scenery chewing - Shirley Henderson frankly acts circles around them both.

It’s easy-watching and not necessarily offensively bad, but you know how it’s all going to end up from the trailer alone - easily forgotten!
