Too long to tell too little. The story isn’t always gripping. The atmosphere, on the other hand, makes the film very compelling. The Texas setting and the sense of vastness of their isolated land have a real charm to them.

Even with a shining example of a wife, it still took Bick a lifetime to straighten up. Jett started sour and only got more bitter with wealth. Uncle was about the only worthwhile male role model. Interesting to see the family grow old and push their parents into new thinking.

I enjoyed this epic film. Such an all star cast with Elizabeth Taylor playing wonderfully with two stunning male leads in Rock Hudson & James Dean. The story about family, race and legacy all set in Texas was very good watch. If anything it was just too long so drift out in parts

Holy cow. 🐄
I saw someone call this the “War and Peace” of cinema. I wish I would’ve know that before attempting to watch this. I just don’t have to equipment necessary to understand and enjoy this film I think. I’m just not a film pro like that. Maybe if it was in book form…

thought it was amazing
for a film from 1956, it seemed modern.
fantastic character growth from start to end with all characters.
I would have to say that even though the big name of James dean drew me in, I think Elizabeth Taylor carried the film.
