Another banger from Kubrick, dude does not miss.
Well, technically he does I'm just a glazer.
Anyways, decent movie. This is one of, if not the, most recurring and impactful themes in his work, the insignificance and stupidity of war and his complete rejection of it.
I gotta say-

Full Metal Jacket is a must see war movie for all. If you haven’t seen this masterpiece watch it now. It’s interesting throughout and compelling all the way through. It does have slight pacing issues which subtract a little from this wonderful film. 8.5/10

I have a very strong opinion on Full Metal Jacket, first off the first hour is a very good war movie as the drill sergeant has a comedic masterclass of a performance, but at the exact 30 minute mark the movie goes from, haha funny insults, to, all your friends hate you and they will beat you and leave you alone to go crazy, IN THE SPAN OF 2 FUCKING MINUTES.

Also Kubrick’s whole perfectionism does not shine here as one do the characters dies looks forward, gets put down, AND HAS A LOOK ROUND AS IF HE WAS RESURRECTED.

Finally my final critique before I get into the praise which I won’t be able to explain well other than “monke see monke like”, is the fact that the complete tonal switch of the movie makes it really boring even though it has its moments it could have been in the 70-90 minute mark and not the 2 hour one, though with all this criticism the ending made the extra like 30 minutes worth it.

Cinematography 9.3/10 (around 3 or 4 shots are absolutely perfect)
Pacing 5/10 (all over the place like a stock market)
Character Development 9.3/10 (the only other reason to stick around for the second half)
Ending 10/10 (couldn’t have done it better myself)
Direction 8.2/10 (Kubrick is my goat but wtf man)

Nah, I don’t get at all how yall see this as a magnum opus in the world of war films. Yes, it has memed dialogue and the music was based. But after 45 mins in I couldn’t stand watching this.

i enjoyed this movie more than i thought i would

8/10 - great look inside into “training to front line” (metal health). Direction was spot on. An easy repeat watch.

an amazing war film that captures every sadistic and brutal aspect of the vietnam war. the acting, writing, music, and action is all excellent with stanley kubrick’s signature touch to violent combat and character development. masterful

Pretty swell film with some cool frames throughout but very depressing. Joker has really seen some shit. Bathroom scene was nutty.
