Frankenstein Reviews

frankenstein did nothing wrong
i blame that girl for not knowing how to swim

OH MY GOD FRANKENSTEIN WAS THE DOCTOR ALL ALONG

Completely different from the book. Yes, it is a classic movie, but that doesn't make it good. It completely changes the names and personalities of all the characters and makes them one dimensional. It misses the point Mary Shelley was trying to make in her book.

This is a classic but outside that there’s nothing much to it. Now obviously this is a product of its time but i honestly expected more from the script/story considering how influential it is. It’s not deep it’s a fun movie from another time that deserves to be seen once 8.6/10

i know it’s a classic but but me i was a little hard to watch idk maybe bc it’s an old movie but it’s like something it’s missing in there

i get and respect that it’s a classic, and i really appreciate that it didn’t scare me like most horror movies do, but it just…wasn’t my thing 🤷🏻‍♀️ not bad for 1931 tho🫡

incredibly charming and sad, i felt so bad for The Monster, i love him so dearly and he deserved so much better

Still just as thought-provoking now as it was back in 1931, Frankenstein is an undisputed classic film worth watching for any self proclaimed film buff or horror fan. 8.5/10

Feels hollow compared to the book. Captures the horror, but very little depth. But the visuals/atmosphere are great. Easy to see why this film defined the cultural vision of this story. I just wish the rich thematic material wasn't so thoroughly siphoned out.

I have loved the Frankenstein character for a while, seeing different versions portrayed and although this is the most popular one it is far from the best. I have many criticisms of it and the excuse that it is old doesn’t apply here. Nosferatu fixes some of the issues I do have with this movie in particular.

It’s good, and it was fun to see a live action Frankenstein, but it just is not as good as the book at all. Much simpler and has nowhere near the amount of depth.

oh monster how misunderstood you are

3½/5
While I didn't enjoy this as much as The Invisible Man from Universal Horror, I still very much liked this movie. Boris Karloff gives an exceptional performance as The Monster, he really got the mannerisms down to perfection.

Heck of shot at the end. Pulled it up from dislike to meh.

Visuals were better than the story.
Loved the wedding dress omg Elizabeth was gorgeous but the story was so off from the book

I finally got around to watching this Universal Studios classic (I still haven’t seen Guillermo del Toro’s version). The gothic atmosphere created by the sets is absolutely fantastic. Defying death comes with serious consequences.

The storytelling is solid, although there are a few questionable moments, like leaving the doctor alone with the Monster, leaving the little girl by herself, and locking his fiancée in her room while the Monster climbs in through the window. 💀

The Monster’s makeup is incredible—it’s exactly how we all remember him. And please, stop calling the Monster “Frankenstein.” 😑 Frankenstein is the doctor.

I was a little more invested in the invisible man and Dracula but overall still a good movie. I really liked the design of Frankenstein and the scene where he through the girl into the water is hilarious. Fritz death was satisfying if it wants for him frank would be good. 6.5/10

I can appreciate it for what it is, especially for its time, but it just didn’t really keep my interest. It was okay, just not something I connected with.

All-time classic.
