Flora and Son Reviews

The story itself is not very original, as it follows a single mother raising a rebellious teenager with a history of stealing and a somewhat absent father. However, the filmmakers make it work through strong storytelling and beautiful cinematography.

What makes this movie special is the way it blends drama, comedy, and musical elements. It’s a film you can watch with your teenage children because it explores the difficult relationship between a mother and her son. However, through shared interests, they are able to build a stronger bond. In this case, both characters find a connection through music.

This is the first film I’ve seen starring Eve Hewson (Bono’s daughter), and she portrays Flora in a very comedic way while still making the audience connect with her character. This is not a movie that will have you crying; instead, it leaves you with a warm, happy, and uplifting feeling.

At some point (if you are a parent), you will probably relate to Flora, and if you are a son or daughter, you may see yourself in Max.

A great film and 100% recommended.

I liked it, but I don’t see a good motivation behind Flora’s sudden change, her appeal to music and desire to be a good mother. We start with her at a bar hooking up with a stranger, and apart from that we never see her like that again, she just changed, like that.

I really enjoyed Flora’s character and felt a connection to her early on so the movie was good about making you care about the characters. Cute ending too. Not too long either so definitely worth a watch.

i love that the budding relationship wasn’t the primary focus of the movie, her relationship with her son is. felt very real and a change of pace from most movies.

Tries too hard an doesn’t go anywhere

Argh feels!!! I LOVE this movie so much! Plus it has Joseph Gordon-Levitt playing guitar. Melt! 🫠🫠🫠

This movie was actually pretty good! It’s definitely a story of comeback, growth, both a mothers love and finding new love and connection.

I really like this movie. It has a beautiful meaning and music, and the Dublin accent makes it 10x better. SO SO cute and message.

It was a pretty good movie and showed a mother struggling to be a mother. We often forget the hardships mothers face and this was a nice reminder.

I liked it actually. Wasn't the best but it's a 5.5/10
