I'm torn between whether it's love or like. I see so much of myself in Elio, not only in his love for outer space but also in his struggle with belonging and loneliness. No matter the demographic, you'll resonate just because nobody does relatability like Pixar. Although I do wish they explored the themes further, a solid 30 minutes of extra runtime would have solved all my issues. The animation, colours, worlds, humour, and characters are all beautifully done. Visually, it's one of the best. Internally, it lacks substance, narrative, and emotional gravity. It feels rushed, but it works, just not as well as it should.

6.4 - Cute and simple movie, but bottom tier for Pixar.

I was excited for this when it was announced a couple years ago, but honestly almost completely forgot about it until it hit theaters. It’s been severely under-marketed & essentially going head to head against HTTYD is a brutal spot to be in.

The space scenes are gorgeous & the aliens are incredibly unique. But as for the human elements, the new school squishy Pixar style is starting to feel a bit stale. The core character’s are well enough written, but the story itself felt too familiar & even shallow compared to the top tiers of Pixar’s catalog. I don’t really have any major complaints other than it being almost as forgettable after the fact as it was before.

Pixar has almost always been the standard of innovation in the animation space & that’s feeling less & less the case year over year. It’s unfortunate this is the story that is going to take the hit, because there is some heart there, but I think the general public might be starting to turn off its trust in the Disney & Pixar animation brands & are hoping for a shock to the system.

At least I am.

Good movie! Way better than the trash Pixar been crapping out lately. Super cute story but it wasn’t super different and the score was lacking, other than one particular part with dope beat. You’ll know when you hear it. Glordon made this movie

The prologue is, without question, one of the best scenes in all of Pixar's filmography. However, I don't think the film is able to match that same level of electricity as it shifts into its fantastical adventures.

Elio.

the colors, the animation, the settings, the story, 10/10 i LOVED it! i went with my summer camp group and they all had such a blast.
but as a adult who didn’t have friends growing up and always felt like i was in my parents way (they had me really late lol) i relate to elio a little more than i wanna admit. i get the feeling of being alone even when surrounded by people. i get the feeling of being only surrounded by adults who don’t get me and kids who don’t want me. it hit home, and was beautifully written.

Not bad. Kid loved it.

7.5/10 pretty fun, made me cry, though I didn't feel like they explored more of the feelings of Elio, there weren't many high stakes. But nonetheless it was quite fun, had its moments. Needed more connection.

This was cute but the message and story just kinda fell flat for me. The ending was very anti-climactic and some of the characters didn’t have any addition to the plot whatsoever. I still liked Elio’s story tho, and resonated with his struggles a lot.

One word, stunning. 🥲💙

Covers themes of belonging, loneliness, and identity, which always make me emotional. I love the relationship between Elio and Olga. It doesn’t break new ground like many other Pixar films, but it has the typical polish.

It was a cute movie which surely improved after the first act but nothing amazing.
A kind, heartwarming, and nicely animated, surely worth a watch.

Not a single idea from this movie, everything was taken from something else noticeably that being said it was still a good watch but it just felt like I was watching space lilo and stitch with watered down Luca animation, though this was still better than I expected 8/10

I came in expecting a lot more. I just felt a bit unfulfilled. But that’s because I had very high expectations, overall it’s a very nice movie with great characters and honestly a good plot with a Beautiful deep meaning. I absolutely loved the colors and the animation!
