REVISITING A SUPERHERO SEQUEL THAT MISSED THE MARK - ELEKTRA (2005)

Rating: 3.6/10

Directed by Rob Bowman, this 2005 superhero film had all the ingredients to be a compelling spin-off - a complex and intriguing character, a richly detailed world, and a talented lead actress. Unfortunately, Elektra falls flat, succumbing to a convoluted plot, poor pacing, and lackluster action.

Jennifer Garner reprises her role as Elektra Natchios, a skilled martial artist and assassin, who finds herself embroiled in a mystical conflict. While Garner brings a certain level of charm and physicality to the role, her performance is ultimately undermined by a script that struggles to balance action, drama, and fantasy.

The supporting cast, including Terence Stamp (Stick) and Will Yun Lee (Kirigi), are woefully underutilized, with their characters feeling more like cardboard cutouts than fully fleshed-out people.

The film's biggest problem, however, is its tone. Elektra veers wildly between dark and gritty, and campy and cheesy, never quite finding a consistent balance. The result is a viewing experience that's disjointed and unsatisfying.

From a technical standpoint, the film's action sequences are occasionally impressive, but the CGI is dated, and the cinematography is uninspired.

Overall, Elektra (2005) is a disappointing sequel that fails to deliver on its promising premise. Even die-hard fans of the character may find themselves yawning at the film's predictable plot twists and lackluster action.

the character is really interesting but honestly the whole romance really threw me off honestly not sure why that was needed. Definitely not a bad movie but it felt flat at times. The red outfit though ate down!!! I do appreciate older marvel movies 6.7/10

Just watched the directors cut of this buns ah movie and it doesn’t get better. Can’t watch this without looking at my phone or something else every once in a while. The directors cut doesn’t get any better in like daredevil which was a slightly better directors cut.

Cheesy super hero spin of from the 2000s daredevil movie. But this was kind of better than daredevil cause it felt like a movie rather than a music video. So I actually preferred this more.
