This is one of THE most agonizing movies ever made. You like your characters being assassinated, lack of respect for source material and utter horrific film making that makes the CW jealous than this is the movie for you. Screw this movie with a rusty garden rake.

this movie is single handedly the reason millions of people will never be excited for a live action adaptation of an anime. I'm not even a big Dragonball fan and I was offended on their behalf.

Having now watched and learned more of the actual story on Dragon Ball it’s a VERY disappointing adaptation. Surprised they had the audacity to insert an end credit scene to hint at a sequel.

Rated: 3/10 ⭐️

I expected a rough adaptation, but my low bar wasn’t low enough. It felt like Dragon Ball in name only.

What Worked:
• James Marsters as Piccolo actually tried. His design was one of the few things close to the source.
• Tyler’s orchestral score had that big action feel. I nodded along even when scenes didn’t deserve it.
• When they let actors move, a few practical martial arts beats had actual energy.

What Didn’t Click:
• Massive story changes really lost me. Goku in high school? I kept thinking “this isn’t Dragon Ball.”
• I couldn’t buy Justin Chatwin as Goku. The casting in this film felt off and the lack of spirit took me out of it.
• It had a cheap Syfy-original vibe. The cities looked like a backlot and the CGI ki blasts were super rough.

The Verdict:
Skip unless you want a case study in bad adaptations. Stick to the anime.

This is an awful movie. It’s an awful adaptation of one of the greatest anime ever made. It’s not even a good move on its own right as the effects looked dated even for the time. HOWEVER…

I saw this for the first time when I was a child and I liked it lol.
