Dodes'ka-den

I can’t pick between like and love, but I know this’ll stick with me. Beautiful both visually and thematically, but very sad.
By the end though, while still tragic, it was also quite touching and hopeful for most of the stories.

Was like a slice of life for a whole town.

the way i interpreted this movie was that you shouldn’t feed too far in to people’s delusions or ideas or you yourself will end up adopting those delusions or ideas too. and eventually, your demise will be right along side the person who’s delusions or ideas you took on. the biggest example of this was the beggar and his son, with the son taking on his father’s delusions. however, practically all the other characters serve as this lesson, whether it be roku chan and his mother, the drunks and their wives, or the girl and her abusive uncle. i could go into more detail but i don’t want my review to go on a tangent. additionally, the use of color in this film was so fantastic and appealing. it didn’t seem like kurosawa’s first color film simply cause of how good it was in regards to the use of the color. as always, this kurosawa film explores deep and important dilemmas, philosophical and moral, while making you think.

Honestly a lot better than I expected
