This film feels pretty disconnected from The Shining which in my opinion is actually a good thing. It gets to tell its own story which I actually quite enjoy but does demystify some aspects of the original a bit. The final act can be a bit fanservicy but I think it earns it

They are pandering to me and it only half worked

great movie, a sequel to the shining movie 9/10

The shining didn’t need a sequel, especially not this one

You know, I only watched this because of my love for the shining but mostly because of my love for Ewan McGregor and even so it was still boring

Okay but did anyone else feel like Rebecca Ferguson and the gang were lowkey giving Monsters Inc vibes with those canisters they had?

Following up the shining was always going to be a difficult task, but this movie really nailed it. I enjoyed the way the story built upon the lore we’re already familiar with but also expanded it into interesting new territory as well.

The entire cast did a fantastic job and the way the crew recreated certain scenes and set pieces from the shining was so masterfully done.
In fact, as I was watching it I was almost certain that some of the shots had to have been pulled directly from the shining, that I needed to pause the movie and google it.

As it turns out, only 3 were, and they’re all brief establishing shots. Every single interior was meticulously recreated. That shit blew my mind.

Overall a really good watch, but I would highly recommend you’ve seen the shining first or there will be certain aspects that won’t make much sense.

was a pleasant surprise! it was touching how they explored the themes of death and alcoholism, and how danny was able to understand the shine in a more healthy way
rose the hat was such a cool antagonist
i enjoyed how they recontextualized some of the shining too

BORINGGGGGGGG. Remember having a horror movie marathon with the Shining with Zoe just to have this shitty ass sequel. Did not fill any gaps, barely brought up the OG movie, completely separate movie. 0/10 would not watch again either as a sequel or an entirely separate movie.

Great movie. Love the vomit scene.
