Do the Right Thing

The most important film in history. My dad told me stories of what happened when this movie came out and I couldn't believe it. For as many racists that hated the film, he said there was also a lot of unity between races, or at least in his neighborhood. Spike Lee is 1 of the 🐐s

Did Mookie do the right thing? You’d think the film is just a hot summer, feel good based in late 80s Bed-Stuy New York, but no. It progresses into a critical two options in the fight for civil rights and social justice. The MLK v. X dilemma. A must watch Spike Lee film 🎥

Watched this for a class, everything about the movie is great. As a first generation American, although I do consider myself an AA I grew up in an African household so seeing authentic African American culture like this has always been fascinating for me.

“Put some extra mozzarella on that motherfucker and shit.”

Talk about a fucking good movie, like holyyy. There’s so much to unpack, so here are my thoughts on a couple things, first, the pacing was great but too great mainly because so much shit happens in this it has its own fault of being too quick, like I deadass thought we were at the end, nope, got 49 minutes to go. Secondly, the characters are incredibly memorable, some in better ways than others, and finally for now, This is incredibly directed, like omg, can’t believe Spike Lee managed to be a highlight of a movie both off and on screen to THIS degree.

1st Act 9.7/10 (This shits a certified hood classic, which felt weird to say, but tbh other than Friday idk a more fitting pick.)

2nd Act 9.4/10 (Amazing, but pacing lets it down massively.)

3rd Act 10/10 (Pure devastation, and that’s all I can say.)

Plot 9.6/10 (Some scenes were unnecessary, but in the grand scheme of things, don’t really matter too much.)

Soundtrack/Score 8.7/10 (Only really noticed the Fight The Power song, so when you’ve only got 4 songs and only one is memorable that’s not a good look.)

Acting 10/10 (What makes the characters so relatable, hateable and likeable, is 100000% these actors, like they are all perfect for their roles, especially Smiley, he ain’t deserve allat.)

Pacing 8.6/10 (Too fast for its own good, like even my attention span was like “Wow this should not have this amount left.”)

Cinematography 8.9/10 (Some semi decent shots, loved the one with Mookie and Sal from the ground up though.)

Character Development 9.8/10 (Not gonna give much away, other than Fuck You Pino.)

Writing 9.7/10 (My god is the dialogue good in this, like Pulp Fiction level good.)

Ending 10/10 (My god talk about unexpected, like my opinion of a movie has never changed so fast.)

Direction 9.5/10 (Bravo Spike Lee, Bra-fucking-vo.)
