Dirty Harry
Whilst showing its age in several problematic areas, Dirty Harry is a seriously strong cop-thriller that I’m glad I finally got around to!
I had no idea there were like five Harry Callahan movies, I’m hoping they pop up on a service somewhere so I’m able to watch the rest. But I digress, THIS film is great, it plays like one of Eastwood’s westerns, just in a more modern setting - not a complaint. The cat and mouse element works perfectly here, and the scenarios that are generated feel authentic and exciting. There’s an unexpected high level of filmmaking in the way of set piece execution, to just some seriously staggering shots.
Clint is the quiet hard-man yet again, I’ve never known a character archetype fit a guy so well. The line delivery on some of these pieces of dialogue is pitch-perfect. Supporting cast also do a fine job, I often find with older films the supporters are a big bleh - wasn’t the case here.
That phone booth sequence DEFINITELY inspired Die Hard 3, I had no idea… I still have a LOT of Eastwood films to catch up on across the various eras of his career. The more I watch, the more excited I am to watch ‘em.

Dirty Harry is such a peak character who executes justice in his own way.
If you like a cat and mouse game between a detective and a serial killer I highly recommend this.

Watching this film was like traveling to a different world! It’s crazy to see how this was what city life was like some 50+ years ago! I feel like society has gotten better is some ways, yet worse in others! An ok start to the series.

Feels like one of many films that influenced the likes of Christopher Nolan and Michael Mann’s ‘Heat’. It’s very good, Eastwood at his most badass post-Dollars Trilogy and a truly maniacal villain. Score is great too. Just a very enjoyable film
