Death Becomes Her

saw someone say this movie is “diabolically inventive” and i am inclined to agree. one of the funniest satirical horror films i’ve ever seen, and the word iconic does not even do it justice. it is very well constructed, very funny, but not meant for everyone to understand.

Like this is just a classic must watch movie for a chilled warm night in. They gave c*nt and the lesson here is chase the bag.

This movie is fun! It’s stylish, campy and full of clever special effects that still hold up. Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn completely commit to the absurdity and the visual gags are timeless. I get why it’s a cult classic.

That said… It’s basically She-Devil with immortality and better lighting. The same plot beats: Two women destroying each other over a balding, mildly successful middle-aged man.

And while it’s meant to be a parody of Hollywood’s obsession with youth, it still traps its women in the same one-note cycle. All they think, talk and fight about is staying young and beautiful. There’s nothing else to them. No layers, no depth, no real humanity.

I don’t need every movie to be deep but I am just bored of this particular story. Still, it’s a fun watch if you want visual spectacle and Meryl being hilariously over-dramatic.

The movie itself was funny but I hate how women’s desires were demonstrated. I also hate how the man (murderer) became a saint at the end. It was kinda unpredictable at the beginning but it was pretty odd at the end. Buttt what did I expect from a 90s movie lol.
