Cure
"That water will make you calm.”
Cure Is one interesting film to say the least, as it felt like so many movies all mixed into one, while still incorporating elements of originality, key point of this would be the lighter.
Cute felt like a mix of Memento, The Batman, Dark Water and Smile, all of which Cure predates, so it’s either incredibly influential in its entirety, or it just has a distinct vibe other movies tried recreating.
Act One 8.7/10 (Great introduction, took no time in kicking off, and gave us all the questions and none of the answers, however did lack a bit in pacing.)
Act Two 9.1/10 (Has the best scene in the whole movie and has an all round amazing progression of the story, however the pacing is all over the place.)
Act Three 9.8/10 (Is almost perfect in every way, it just kinda assumes you are a literal detective yourself, like you and the main guy are on the same page at all times, like no I ain’t, some guidance please.)
Plot 9.3/10 (The whole idea works better than it should for being so basic on the surface.)
Soundtrack/Score 9.2/10 (There’s only like three tracks and no use of music predominantly throughout, but all the tracks are good and one is an absolute belter.)
Acting 9/10 (Kōji Yakusho is one of the greatest actors who ever lived, that being said, he kind of outshines everyone, like the whole cast feels inferior. (except Masato Hagiwara, that mf was Paul Dano’s Riddler before Paul Dano’s Riddler)
Pacing 8.6/10 (Can feel a bit iffy at times, but it gets a pass from the fact the entire last 40 minutes you couldn’t take your eyes off it if you wanted to.)
Cinematography 9/10 (So well shot, love all the wide angle shots, but WHY THE FUCK IS IT SO DARK??)
Character Development 9.3/10 (Fuck You Mamiya)
Writing 9.7/10 (Can’t spoil it but the whole idea of what Cure is, is just absolutely phenomenal.)
Ending 8.8/10 (Gonna be honest, first reaction was, huh?, then I googled it and watched it back and went, ohhhhhh that’s actually really good, so it’s either rated this cause confusing or cause I’m just a lil slow.)
Direction 9/10 (felt so modern, like Made in 97’, feels like 23’, and gotta love the use of close ups, credit where credit is due)
Overall 9.3/10
Brilliantly made, disturbing you to your core, lacks here and there with pacing in act two, but overall an amazing watch that I highly recommend, just maybe get the criterion release.

Cure
The perfect mix of thriller and horror, with brilliant writing, great acting, and stunning cinematography and lighting. What's so unique and brilliant about this murder mystery is, that it's not about who did it, but rather how? 9/10
