Constantine

I liked it a lot, it was very interesting to watch. I found it too long for me personally, but I definitely understand why it was so long. I would recommend this and I would probably rewatch it if a friend or family asked to watch it with me.

I genuinely was not expecting Constantine to be that good 😭. Like HOW is this a DC movie?? That honestly shocked me because this barely feels like your typical superhero film. It’s basically the perfect mix of action, horror, and supernatural thriller, and it balances all three genres surprisingly well.

Now I finally understand why Keanu Reeves is so beloved because he absolutely ate in this role. His performance was effortlessly cool without trying too hard, and the whole reluctant anti-hero thing worked so well for the character. I LOVE a good reluctant hero, and John Constantine has that perfect “does the right thing while acting like he doesn’t care” energy that makes characters instantly entertaining to watch.

What surprised me most is how well the movie still holds up. For a film released in 2005, the atmosphere, effects, and overall style are still incredibly solid almost 20 years later. There were even a few moments that genuinely creeped me out, but what really kept me invested was the story itself. I love horror movies that actually have a strong plot instead of relying only on jump scares, and this movie delivered that perfectly.

As a Christian, I also found the religious themes really interesting. I liked that the movie didn’t portray angels as automatically good or trustworthy, because that added a lot more complexity to the story. I also (not to get too preachy but) I think that’s not only interesting but it also is important because it’s a reminder that as followers of Christ we cannot be doing our will and using his name, like do not play cause he snatched those wings right back 😭. The idea of half-demons and half-angels secretly living among humans was such a cool concept, and honestly I cannot believe this never became a huge franchise because I would’ve watched every single movie 😭. IT’S NOT TOO LATE KEANU GET BACK TO WORK!!

And on top of everything else, this movie was funny as hell. That scene where the devil is about to drag Constantine away, only for Constantine to actually make it into heaven and flip him off that shit was so fucking funny!!! 🤣🤣. The humor never ruined the darker tone either, it just made the characters feel even more entertaining and memorable. Overall, this movie completely exceeded my expectations and honestly became one of my favorite action-horror films pretty quickly.
