Boyhood

Now I was initially going to say I loved this movie while I was watching the first half but once mason(main character) got older the movie started to get really I guess you could say existential. Now as a teenager that part of the movie was kinda interesting but also sorta boring

Boyhood

its a very unique film, and its so cool seeing the kid growing up throughout the movie

Had high expectations for this film, it’s more of a documentary/home video type vibe which was an interesting concept - just felt it lacked a sort of climax or purpose…rather revolutionary for its time though

It’s not about growing up, it had 0 meaning besides that if you have nice hair you can get any women even if you’re a pathetic nonbinary loser.

The dad was the only good character, and he was absent—that’s not good. The mom was a bitch.

The Mexican scene felt like Dhar Mann

Evento canónico la fase cringe criminal de los 15 btw

Amazing movie, the ending was a bit meh and lowkey cliche. I really liked that they took a different approach to filming, which meant you could really see the kids grow up, instead of just switching actors like in most movies. The movie had a few confusing grow up moments and I felt like there was some information missing, but at the same time I feel like 2-38 is a long time for a movie, especially one like this. I also felt the time jumps were a bit confusing at times but overall still a pretty damn good movie that everyone has to have seen at least once.

Incredible concept and very well executed, great acting from the main character, plot felt a little week but It felt just like a normal life so I guess it works, loved how the music was based off of the songs out at that time

Holy shit I have so much to say! But first of all I heated it. Amazing soundtrack, I cried and the world fucking sucks. ❤️

9.9 - God damn this hits like a ton of bricks to my slightly older self.

A truly singular experience. It’s a steady stream of both nostalgia & wistfulness. There’s moments here that feel ripped right from my own life. There’s moments that make me yearn for parts of my youth I missed.

The difference internally from when I first saw this almost a decade ago to now is indescribable. I can’t fathom how it will feel in another 10 years.

I’m almost the age Ethan Hawke was when they started filming - the age Ellar Coltrane is now. That doesn’t mean much in general but makes me feel some sort of intense mortality. The way that 12 years flies by so seamlessly over just under 3 hours is hard to grapple with - almost exactly how the last 12ish years have felt, both full & gone too fast.

A masterpiece.

like why I feel like there should've been more Mason turned out this way, to show his psychological issues, how he handles things, or even his way of thinking. But all I saw were some random, overly edited scenes.

You can see how much effort the director put into this and what a bold move he took. Unique.

while I commend the effort of this project, the story just does not work. so many of the plot threads just end up forgotten while waiting for the next shooting block, so that over the whole span of the movie it feels like really nothing happened at all?

idk what to say about this one. it's just amazing

2y

Solid movie thats uniquely filmed to follow the life of a boy as he ages and experiences problems throughout his life, with the actors all aging in real time

I think their choice on making the kid an existentialist was a little meh but it didn’t take much from the movie

A beautiful and unique coming-of-age story

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I don't think the 12 year gimmick paid off as much as people say.
It's still a good movie.
